Over the next four years, the WCSD will be receiving $283,000 from Microsoft.  The funds are from a class action lawsuit by Iowa consumers and businesses where according to the settlement a portion of the unclaimed sum would go to Iowa Schools based on free and reduced lunch rates.  All 5 of our schools qualified.  The funds will be used to support the implementation of the Iowa Core Curriculum.  Our district is eligible for approximately $283,000 over a four-year period.  Funds will be dispersed: 50% on eligible software, 35% on eligible hardware and 15% on professional development.  Only Microsoft approved items qualify for purchase.  Our project includes: classroom computers, assistance with implementation of a high-speed wireless network, innovative software for writing/ publishing and professional development.  The process for applying for this funding began April 2009 and the district plan was approved April 2010.  Thanks to Jeff Brock (Technology Coordinator), John TeBockhorst (Assistant Technology Coordinator) and Veta Thode (Curriculum Director) for all your hard work in making this happen!
