Stewart Elementary Library is once again hosting its annual book fair. The fair begins on October 15 and runs through October 21. If you can’t make it to the fair, please visit our online book fair. It is open until October 30. You can find all the details at:


Book Fair Hours:

8:30am-3:30pm on school days

4pm-8pm on October 16 & 21 during Parent-Teacher conferences


All proceeds go towards purchasing books for the school library. Hope to see you there!


Brighton: After School Program Registrations Due PDF Print E-mail

In cooperation with Brighton Horizons, Washington County Extension is pleased to announce the fourth year of the Brighton after school program: The Brighton Bear Cub Club. Registrations are due October 1 to the Washington County Extension Office or Brighton City Hall. The Brighton Bear Cub Club will meet at the Brighton Community Building from 1:30-4:00 pm on the 1:10 early out Professional Development Days for Washington Community Schools. The program will start in October and be held on each of the Professional Development 1:10 dismissal days after. Students should be registered by October 1 for the start of the program on October 8. Forms are available at the Brighton Community Building & the Washington County Extension Office. Brighton Horizons and ISU Extension are still looking for volunteers to help with the program. Please contact the Washington County Extension Office if interested in volunteering or for enrollment forms, 319-653-4811.

Stewart Elementary students and staff kicked off the school year with a rockin’ character assembly recently. Peer Helpers from the high school performed a choreographed dance and gave high fives to each student following the assembly. We are excited to have such amazing role models within our school district!

We all need a break during the day and students at Stewart Elementary take advantage of "break time" with FUN AT RECESS! Not only does recess improve physical fitness with students; but studies show it benefits their social-emotional growth and academic performance. I'll bet when you think back on your school years, a few fond memories of RECESS cross your mind!

School is now in full swing and we're glad you're back! School started back on Tuesday, August 19 and we've been in session for 2 full weeks. It's going to be a great year!
