Stewart: National Reading Month PDF Print E-mail

In 1997, the National Education Association (NEA) kicked-off a day to celebrate reading throughout the United States. Today, we observe National Reading Month. This nationwide observance coincides with the birthday of Dr Seuss (Geisel), an American writer best known for writing children's books such as: Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and The Cat in the Hat. Stewart Elementary has had a lot of fun in March with this celebration and the theme of Dr Seuss characters/ books. One of the activities is a guessing jar that is being passed from class to class. Each student has the opportunity to guess how many goldfish crackers are in the jar. The student who guesses the closest will earn the goldfish crackers as a snack for their class. Reading is fun at Stewart Elementary!

What does fairness mean to you? We'd like to extend a big thank you to Miss Goodwin’s second grade class for helping us learn what it means to be fair during our most recent character assembly! We love having our second grade classes be role models for our younger students at Stewart Elementary.

Stewart: ELPA21 Test PDF Print E-mail

We're in the news! A new test is currently being developed nationally to test English Language proficiency: English Language Proficiency for the 21st Century (ELPA21). The Washington Community School District is one of the districts in the 11 states selected in the United States that are piloting the test. We are proud to say that this test was developed with the help of two of our teachers: Beth Bryce & Kate Glinsmann. Pictured is a second grade student taking the pilot ELPA21 test online.
