Intro to Foods: Cupcake Wars PDF Print E-mail

Last week in Intro to Foods, students completed a “Cupcake Wars” competition. The week started out with Nancy from HyVee demonstrating different piping and decorating tips to the students. In small groups, students had to pick a theme, build a cupcake stand that would display 12 cupcakes, and then bake and decorate the cupcakes. At the end of the week, teachers came in and voted for their favorite. All groups did a great job and the voting was very close! Thank you to Nancy and HyVee for donating time and cupcakes!

Distinguished Club Award PDF Print E-mail

Builder's Club President, Reece M., holds the Distinguished Club patch awarded to the club for the 2015-2016 year. The Distinguished Club Award program provides recognition to individual sponsored clubs for their overall performance in the combined areas of club administration, membership and leadership development, Kiwanis-family involvement, and service and fundraising efforts. Club performance is judged against pre-established standards of excellence. This is the second year in a row to receive this award. The WMS Builder's Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Amer's.

 
Learning Through Breakouts! PDF Print E-mail

Students in Mrs. Meyer's Digital Literacy class participated in breakout activities where the goal is to break IN to the boxes to solve the puzzle. Breakouts require collaboration, team work, critical thinking skills, and determination to find clues which lead to combinations on various locks. The students did awesome and can not wait to participate in more breakouts!

WMS Meet the Teacher Night PDF Print E-mail

Washington Middle School will host their annual Student/Parent Orientation and “Meet the Teachers” Night on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

 

Sixth grade students/ parents will receive their schedules and meet the teachers from 5:00 – 5:30 PM followed by a parent orientation meeting in the MS auditorium from 5:30 – 5:45 PM. Public Health staff will be available at the orientation meeting and through the evening to discuss required immunizations.

 

Any interested parent of a 6,7,8 grade student is invited to attend a Schoology parent login meeting in the auditorium from 5:45 – 6:00 PM. 7th/8th grade students/parents will receive their schedules and meet the teachers from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

 

Parents and students are asked to enter through the east doors and are encouraged to bring supplies and place those in their lockers.

 

Fall sports information will be available and completed forms can be turned in at this time. There will be a sign up table for parents who are interested in participating in the PIE (Parents Involved in Education) support group.

 

Textbook fees and lunch money can be paid in the office during this time.

WMS Orange & Black Give Back Day PDF Print E-mail

Washington Middle School students and staff participated in their annual community service project on May 11th. Students and staff spent the morning out in the community working at 37 different sites. Some of their tasks included painting, weeding, cleaning and mulching. Students returned to school and had a free lunch provided by the following businesses and individuals: Hy Vee, Fareway, Mahaska Bottling, WAYS, Noon Kiwanis, Federation Bank , Lebowski’s, Dave & Lisa Nacos, Jason & Melissa Westphal, Kurt & Jan Dallmeyer, Brent & Misty Hinson, Curt & Jamie Mayer, and Ryan & Diana Flannery. After lunch the students were treated to ice cream courtesy of Cathy Kleese & PIE.
