John Tweeton, a 1968 graduate, sent two huge cakes to the WHS Yearbook team to celebrate www.whsyearbooks.com - a website that now has all WHS yearbooks 1920-2010 online. We are the FIRST SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY to have all of their yearbooks online! The website contains PDFs of all of the WHS yearbooks. You'll want to check out the website - it has a lot of great Washington history as well as the yearbooks! Pictured are some of the students on the 2012 yearbook staff: Tiffany, Paiton, Caitlin, Nick and Brooklyn (editor).

Rachel's Challenge PDF Print E-mail

Recently, Washington High School hosted a Rachel's Challenge Assembly funded by the Washington County SAFE Coalition. Rachel Joy Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999. Immediately after the tragedy, her father began to speak around the nation and used writings and drawings from Rachel's many diaries to illustrate the need for a kinder, more compassionate nation. Today, speakers honor Rachel's life by reaching the nation with Rachel's simple profound message. This assembly helps provide students with social/ emotional education that is both colorblind and culturally relevant. It helps train adults to inspire, equip and empower students to affect permanent positive change. It creates a safe learning environment for all students by re-establishing civility and delivering proactive anecdotes to school violence and bullying. As well, it improves academic achievement by engaging students' hearts, heads and hands in the learning process. The MISSION STATEMENT that we can all learn from is: "We exist to inspire, equip and empower every person to create a permanent positive culture change in their school, business and community by starting a chain reaction of kindness and compassion."

The Washington Community School District Foundation is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1994 to maintain, develop, increase and extend the facilities and services of the Washington Community School District. In addition, the Foundation has the goal to provide broader educational opportunities to the students, staff, faculty and residents of the geographical area served by the School District.

The WCSD Foundation is governed by a 9-member board of directors comprised of local residents who are interested in helping achieve the educational goals of the District. The Foundation is also a tax exempt organization as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, which means that gifts to the Foundation may be tax deductible.

Donations can be of any size, and can be in the form of cash, securities, personal property, real estate, life insurance, IRA / retirement accounts or trust distributions. If you have an area of special interest that you want to help, such as science, literature, the arts, or maybe elementary school education, you can designate how your gift is to be used, or simply donate for the general educational purposes of the Foundation.
