BPA Students attend State Conference PDF Print E-mail

Twenty-five WHS Business Professionals of America (BPA) students participated in the Iowa BPA State Leadership Conference in Des Moines last month. The students participated in various competitive contests, elected new state officers and networked with other students from around the state of Iowa. BPA Members to now attend Nationals PDF Print E-mail

Congratulations to WHS Business Professionals of America (BPA) members who placed in the Competitive Contests, as well as were elected for State Officer Positions. WHS BPA members who placed in the State Leadership Competitive Contests include fifteen members: Lexi (HR Mgmt – 1st place), Logan (Adv Acctg -3rd place), Elainie (Adv Spreadsheet -6th place & Basic Office Systems & Procedures- 4th place), Stephanie (Integrated Office Applications -3rd place), Olivia (Integrated Office Applications -1st place & Digital Media Productions-4th place), Natalee (Desktop Publishing -4th place), Joni (Basic Office Systems & Procedures -5th place), Bryton (Legal Office Procedures- 3rd place), Kaitlin (Prepared Speech- 2nd place). The Admin Support Team consists of: Natalee, Brianna, Stephanie & Lauren. Alena qualified in Entrepreneurship. Abby was 1st place in Adv Word Processing. These fifteen members will now be attending the BPA Nationals in Chicago. Other students who are attending Nationals are Tanner, Grace and Parker. For the 2012/ 2013 term, Lexi (pictured left) was elected President & Zuleyma (pictured right) was elected as Parliamentarian. Congratulations and good luck to everyone at Nationals!

WHS Strength and Conditioning Facility at Case Field PDF Print E-mail

The Strength and Conditioning Facility at Case Field is hopping EARLY at 6:25 am every school day morning. Approximately 100 to 110 students utilize the facility five mornings per week with an additional 30 to 40 using the facility after school. Starting in the fall of 2012 Weight Lifting 1 & 2 will be offered for concurrent credit for students at Washington High School. Not only does resistance training (strength training) build muscle, it also: helps reduce injuries to our student-athletes, improves bone density, strength & balance; improves cognitive function; can help fight depression; increases flexibility; as well as, helps build confidence & leadership. Pictured are several Washington High School students in the Strength and Conditioning facility a few mornings ago. Our WHS facility offers students many physical fitness advantages and programs- it is definitely FIRST CLASS!

We will be offering one section of Spanish I as an early bird section (7:20-8:05 a.m.) for the 2012-2013 school year. The student must enroll for the whole school year in order to earn a full year's credit of Spanish I. If any student is interested in taking this section, please sign up in the junior high office or high school counseling office by Friday, March 23, 2012.

Washington High School will Host College Fair for Area High School Students and Parents PDF Print E-mail

All area high school students and their parents are invited to learn more about their college options at the Washington High School College Fair Wednesday, March 28, in the Washington High School Gymnasium. The college fair will be from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., hosted by the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling (Iowa ACAC) and the Guidance Department at Washington High School.


Representatives from approximately 60 colleges, universities, and military branches will be on hand to visit with high school students and their parents. Families have an opportunity to discuss admission requirements, housing, financial aid, scholarships, internships and specific majors with the college representatives.
