Hats off to both Caitlin and Anna for creating a radio that works great! This was part of their Physics Class under the direction of Mr. Richard. The radio was created from a kit. It involved putting pieces together, soldering and connecting. It was playing KCII Radio when we snapped this picture. The sound is clear and the music is super! Great Job!

Physics Olympics PDF Print E-mail

The Washington High School Physics team took 2nd at the State Level with a total of 38 points! The State Physics Olympics Competition was held last week at the UNI McLeod Center in Cedar Falls. Mr. Richard's Physics Team did a fantastic job with great results: Soda Straw Arm (1st place- 10 pts), Materials Handling (2nd place- 9 pts), Mouse Trap Car (4th place- 7 pts), Self-Propelled Catapult (5th place- 6 pts), Physics Challenge Problem (5th place- 6 pts) and Toothpick Bridge Building (8th place- 2.5 pts). Pictured in the first picture: Colin, John, Jared, Ryan, Edgar and Angel with the Toothpick Bridge being built (it held 14 pounds at the competition!). Pictured in the second picture are Ryan & Edgar with the Self-Propelled Catapult they built. Congratulations Everyone!

Fundraiser this SUNDAY to help support Operation Backpack! PDF Print E-mail

In conjunction with Operation Backpack, a program of HACAP & Feeding America; Help us raise money to provide food for children in our local community. SUNDAY, April 15 from 1:30- 4:00pm at the United Presbyterian Church. Local elementary & high school students from our school district will be performing along with Praise Band. Free Will Donation; Checks may be made payable to HACAP Food Reservoir. Includes bakery items as well! (Coffee donated by Coffee Corner)

Physics Olympics PDF Print E-mail

Congratulations to this team of young women for placing SECOND at the recent State Level Physics Olympics! The Recycling Team members include: Shannon, Katarina, Tara, Riley, Lauren and McKenna (not present for the picture). This MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITATOR is designed to sort: water bottles, pop cans, soup cans, paper and cardboard. The State Level Physics Olympics was held Wednesday at UNI's McLeod Center in Cedar Falls. FANTASTIC!

Presidential Volunteer Service Award PDF Print E-mail

The Washington High School (WHS) PTO would like to recognize and congratulate Paula McConnell for volunteer service during the 2011-2012 school year with the Bronze Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Paula volunteered over 150 hours to the WHS PTO and was directly responsible for helping raise over $2,700 for the organization. The Volunteer Center of Johnson County, which also provides services in Washington County, was the local certifying agency for the Presidential Volunteer Service award. The VolunteerCenter helps connect people to opportunities to serve and provides essential resources and training to volunteer programs. Pictured are Paula McConnell and Alicia Vittetoe.
