Position Title: Elementary Behavior Learning Center (BLC) Lead Teacher

Washington Community School District

Reports To: Special Education Director

Preparation, Experience, Skills: Special Education, Strategist II endorsement.

Prior experience in the area of behavior.

Experience in the elementary classroom.

Lead Teacher Responsibilities:

  • The lead teacher will work closely with the Special Education Director and the Secondary BLC lead teacher in determining eligibility.
  • As a lead teacher you will be responsible for determining students who are enrolled in the program by using the BLC referral process laid out in the program handbook.
  • The lead teacher will be responsible for overseeing the day-to- day functions of the program. This includes, but is not limited too: coordinating lunch times, creating daily schedules, overseeing student learning, addressing behavioral needs and working collaboratively with transportation.
  • The lead teacher will work with the Special Education Director and Secondary BLC lead teacher in coordinating professional learning opportunities for staff in the program.
  • The lead teacher will work collaboratively with student’s resident district administration and special education teachers by conducting intake meetings and on-going progress conferences/updates with parents, teachers and administrators.
  • As student’s transition back into their resident districts, the lead teacher will provide strategies and supports to the district for a smooth transition.
  • The lead teacher will be responsible for implementing BLC programming based on training that is provided through the district and partnering organizations.
  • The focus of the program will be addressing individual needs in the area of behavior.
  • Teacher will be responsible to follow and maintain student Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

 

Position Title: Elementary Behavior Learning Center (BLC) Paraeducator

2017-18 School Year

 

Reports To: Elementary Lead BLC Teacher / Special Education Director

Preparation, Experience, Skills:

Knowledge and ability to assist with Special Education instructional and behavioral services

CPI Certification

Paraeducator Certification, or working toward certification

Experience working with elementary students

The Washington Secondary Behavior Learning Center assures that the paraeducator can demonstrate the ability:

1. Support a safe, positive teaching and learning environment including the following competencies:

a. Follow prescribed health, safety and emergency school and classroom policy and procedures.

b. As directed, prepare and organize materials to support teaching and learning.

c. Assist in gathering and recording data about the performance and behavior of individuals.

d. Assist in adapting instructional strategies and materials according to the needs of thelearner in content areas.

e. Assist in maintaining a motivational environment.

f. Assist in various instructional arrangements such as: small or large group tutoring.

g. Assist with special health services.

h. Demonstrate knowledge in the academic and behavioral area.

2. Support social, emotional and behavioral development including the following competencies:

a. Provide a supportive environment in which all children can begin to learn andpractice appropriate and acceptable behaviors as individuals and groups.

b. Assist in developing and teaching specific behaviors and procedures that facilitate safety and learning.

c. Assist in the implementation of individualized behavior management plans.

d. Model and assist in teaching appropriate behaviors as a response to inappropriate behaviors.

e. Use appropriate strategies and techniques in a variety of settings to assist in the development of social skills.

f. Assist in modifying the learning environment to manage behavior

3. Assist in the development of physical and intellectual development including the following competencies:

a. Actively communicate with students and provide opportunities that support understanding, acquiring and using verbal and nonverbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings.

b. Actively communicate and support high expectations that are shared,clearly defined &appropriate.

c. Make and document observations appropriate to the individuals with specific learning needs.

d. Use strategies that promote the learner’s independence.

e. Assist in monitoring progress and providing feedback to the appropriate person.

4. Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct on an ongoing basis including the following competencies:

a. Demonstrate a commitment to share information in a confidential manner.

b. Demonstrate a willingness to participate in ongoing staff development and self-evaluation and apply constructive feedback .

c. Abide by the criteria of professional practice and rules of the board of educational examiners.

A regular route bus driver position is available for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year. This driving position would become effective, Wednesday, March 1, 2017 This opening is for the Waco Community School District bus # 1, which leaves from Crawfordsville and currently goes on Vine Ave., Hwy 218, G62, Yucca Ave., Henry-Washington Rd., 115th St., Lexington Ave., 120th St., James Ave., Iowa Ave., Olds Park, and Vine Ave. again, and ends in Crawfordsville. Routes are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Transportation Director.

Applicants must have a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with passenger, air brake, and school bus endorsements. Applicants must also have a valid and current Driver Authorization from the Department of Education, and must be current on their annual training. Applicants must pass, or have already passed, a pre-employment drug screening, a child/dependent and dependent adult abuse background checks, a driving history check, and must have a current valid DOT physical. Once employed, the driver would be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Current regular route drivers who apply will be assigned the route based upon seniority.
