Girls on the Run Program PDF Print E-mail

Twenty girls in 3rd – 5th grades participated in a new program in Washington this Fall called Girls on the Run. Janet Conrad headed up the program, along with 3 other coaches and a few volunteers.

At Girls on the Run, we inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Over a 10-week period girls explored and discussed their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age and developed strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. Through it, they also made new friends, built their confidence and celebrated all that makes them unique. Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health.  The girls participated in a Girls on the Run 5k event on November 11 in Iowa City.  This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum. Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible IS possible.

Practices are led by volunteer, trained coaches, who have all successfully completed a background check.

Be watching next Fall for your your 3rd- 5th grade girl to be part of this amazing program!
