Many Washington high school students have been practicing for their chance to take part in the 67th annual All State band, orchestra and choir. All State auditions were held Saturday, October 19 at the Fairfield High School. Of the thousands of participants in each of the six districts, only an average of 17% are accepted for demonstrating the highest standards of musical performance. The All State group accept approximately 200 members for the orchestra, 225 for the band and 600 for the choir. Five instrumental students and eleven choir students participated to represent Washington High School.
This year Nicholas T was accepted into the All State orchestra as the representative for the Southeast Districts for tuba. For wind and percussion players, the top rated student on each instrument are placed in the orchestra while the rest of the accepted students make up the band. Nicholas competed against 14 other tuba players in an open class audition process and was chosen as top of the pack. This is Nicholas' first year in the All State ensembles. Last year he earned a spot in the South East Iowa Bandmasters honor band. Nicholas has been a band student in Washington since fifth grade. He is a private student of Gary McCurdy. Congratulation Nicholas on this fine honor!
