One Million Dollar Grant to upgrade Stewart Elementary PDF Print E-mail
Monday, May 03 2010 13:46

The Iowa Office of Energy Independence (OEI) has selected the City of Washington to receive an Energy Efficient Conservation Block Grant in the amount of $1,000,000.  The funding will be used for the following projects at Stewart Elementary School: adding insulation, upgrading HVAC system, windows and lighting.

The Iowa OEI has awarded 78 statewide grants totaling $5.8 million under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) program for projects across the state that will reduce energy use, have a positive impact on budgets and enhance the economic development through job creation.  Washington was awarded the largest grant in the State of Iowa.  This was truly a team effort of many people within our school district (Dave Sextro, Superintendent; Jeff Dieleman, Business Manager & Veta Thode, Curriculum Director) and special thanks to members of the city of Washington (Dave Plyman, City Administrator & Ed Raber, Director of Washington Economic Development Group).  Thank you!
