Teachers impact many lives: Thank you to all our teachers with Washington Community Schools!  Teacher Appreciation Week is a good time to reflect upon the great teachers that have influenced your life, as well as the teachers affecting the lives of the people around you.  Our teachers play a crucial role in making sure every student receives a quality education. Hats off to ALL the teachers in our world!  During this special week be sure to show your appreciation.

National Teacher Day is May 4, 2010. National Teacher Day may have started around 1944 when an Arkansas teacher began writing to political/ educational leaders about a need to honor teachers with a special day.  Eleanor Roosevelt became involved and congress established a National Teacher Day.  In 2009, two congressmen presented a bill establishing a national day of teacher recognition on the first Tuesday of the first full week of May.  From this, the President was prompted to issue a proclamation to the American people to observe and celebrate a National Teacher Day. Great teachers make great public schools!
