2010-2011 Traffic Flow and Parking at Washington Junior High PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, August 18 2010 11:12

As staff, students, and community return to school this year, Washington Junior High School will be implementing a new one-way traffic flow and parking plan. All traffic will enter via the north entrance off of South Avenue B and exit through the south entrance back onto South Avenue B. Buses only will be allowed to use the circle drive before and after school for student drop off. Parents are asked to drop off students in front of the building towards the south end before and after school.  Signs are posted marking all areas.

Due to construction of the new high school, many parking areas will not be accessible at the junior high. Lot parking during the day will only be available to staff members and visitors.  Handicapped parking will be available to patrons. No parking signs will be posted in front of the building along the curb during school hours. Parents and students will be asked to utilize street parking in front of the Halycon House but not in their parking lots.  Lines on the street mark legal parking in these areas.

Some of the teachers of Lincoln Elementary School met on Monday, Aug 2 for a Planning Day.  The main topic addressed was SCHEDULING; how to fine tune the class periods and times.  As a group, schedules were coordinated to make the most efficient use of students time.  Planning time for teachers was also coordinated so teachers that are teaming can now plan together more effectively.  Other topics discussed were: homework completion/ how to maximize, incorporating keyboarding into everyday use and student led conferences.  This is just one of the many things that are done before the school year starts to prepare for a smooth and productive year.  2010/ 2011 is going to be GREAT!

5% Back to Schools Program at Office Depot PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, July 29 2010 12:19

If you shop at Office Depot in Iowa City (by Waterfront Hy-Vee); 5% credit of your purchase will come back to the school of your choice! The money earned through this program is used for educational needs in free supplies. It is easy! All you do is simply let the cashier know which school you support and they will look up the correct code for your students school. This credit accumulates and at the end of the program period (quarter) our schools are awarded credit for FREE supplies!

Forgot to use your school's ID number when making a purchase?

Past purchases made within the current quarter can still be entered for credit! To give 5% of your qualifying school supply purchases back to your school in the form of merchandise credits, just follow these simple steps: Simply bring your receipt to your local Office Depot location and ask a store associate to apply your purchase to the school of your choice (they can look up the correct school id number).

Shopping somewhere else? No problem, ask them if they have a promotional program to "give back to your school". Many companies have this program, you just need to ASK!
