Mt. Pleasant Honor Band PDF Print E-mail

Five 7th and 8th graders from Washington participated in the Mt. Pleasant Honor Band on April 17th.  Their selections included a piece called Dinosaurs featuring very unusual sounds from the players including playing 12 inch pvc pipe, glasses, chanting and playing only their mouthpieces at one point.  Pictured are the 7th and 8th graders Kyle, Emily, Joe, Madeline, and Devin.

On Saturday April 10th, 62 students from WJHS attended the 3rd annual Operation Snowflake. Snowflake is a prevention program aimed at promoting good decision making, increasing self-esteem, and educating  students about many topics relevant to their lives.  Students were joined by approximately 30 youth and adult volunteers.  Large group speakers were Tim Dwight, Dale Torpey, and Matt Bellace.  Matt is a national youth motivator and comedian.  It was a great day full of fun, fuzzies, and friends.

Twenty-two Washington band students (from 6th, 7th & 8th grades) performed in the 14th annual Mt. Pleasant Honor Band on Saturday, April 17th. Students prepare individually for a month before putting together an entire concert in one day of rehearsal.  The honor band includes students from 12 area schools. Pictured above are 6th graders representing the elementary level: back row- Melissa, Serenity, Sierra, Libby, Maddy, Ruth, Tara, Beatriz, Stacy; middle row- Aubrey, Brynna, Jasmine, Mitchell, Colton; front row- Melissa, Carolan, Michaela. The 6th grade band consisted of 118 of the top music students from 12 area schools.  It is a great honor to be part of this director nominated event— Congratulations to you all!

 
Washington JH Band - Solo/Ensemble Day PDF Print E-mail

Washington JH Students performed 13 ensembles and 3 solos for a room full of students, parents and judge Bernie Allgood on April 6th during 5th Block. Mr. Allgood is a retired band director who spent a majority of his teaching career in the Albia School district. The students performing earned five I+ ratings, four I ratings, one I- rating, one II+ rating and four II ratings. The groups are listed below with the ratings listed beside them. The scale for ratings is I+, I, I-, II+, II, II-, III+, III, III-  with I+ being the top rating.

4th Grade Music Concert PDF Print E-mail

April 13 was a musical night! The 4th graders presented a music program called MUSIC CLASS (written by Teresa Jennings).  It told a story of how important music is everyone and how much we learn through music.  The concert was held at the high school auditorium and had great attendance!  Julie Hill is the Music Teacher at Lincoln Elementary.  SUPER JOB by the 4th graders!
