GREAT NEWS from the Transportation Dept: Economies of scale! PDF Print E-mail
Monday, July 26 2010 08:30

We are pleased to report that effective August 1 we will be involved in Operational Function Sharing of Transportation between the school districts of Washington, Waco and Winfield/ Mt Union.  The Washington School District has welcomed our neighbors into our family by now providing service for Buses/ Bus Drivers through: Maintenance, Inspections and Drug Testing of Bus Drivers.  The Washington & Waco School Districts have already approved this and the Winfield/ Mt Union School District is pending approval on August 11 and foresee no problems.  As a result of this teamwork, all three districts are eligible for financial incentives from the State of Iowa.

Woody Harden, Director of Transportation, will still spend the majority of his time in the Washington School District.  Route Scheduling will not be affected.  This Operational Function Sharing just builds a great teamwork between our school districts and gives us the advantage of economies of scale!

While most students were starting their summer break, 40 WJHS students traveled to Washington D.C. to explore the rich history of our nation's capitol.  Sites explored included the Capitol, the Crime and Punishment Museum, Ford's Theater, Mount Vernon, and Arlington National Cemetery.  Highlights of the trip included a "behind the scenes" tour at Mt. Vernon based on the movie National Treasure 2, and a trip to the top of the Washington Monument to see the city at night.  It was an incredible trip with an incredible group of students!!
