Each year the Washington State Bank sponsors an online financial literacy program for WHS seniors through the Everfi Educational Platform. All students who complete the program on time and with an average score of 85% of higher are then entered into a drawing for an IPAD provided by the Washington State Bank. This year’s winner is Sarah Miles. Congratulations Sarah and thank you to the Washington State Bank for providing this opportunity.

4-H STEM Codes Bee Bots PDF Print E-mail

The 4-H STEM Club started their April session “Robots on Parade ” April 11 afterschool taking over the Lincoln Elementary Library. This month they are learning about computer science by coding two different types of robots. 25 participants learned about algorithems, or step by step instructions assigned to machines, by completing missions with bee bot robots.

 

 

Washington County Extension & 4-H and Lincoln Elementary are partnering together with a sponsorship from Bazooka Farmstar to offer this 4-H STEM Club to any 3rd-5th grade student who wants to experiment more with science, technology, engineering, and math. Liz Goodwin, Julie Timmins and Amy Green from Washington County Extension are instructing the club.

 

A community showcase is planned for April 25 at 4:30 p.m. to showcase what the students have learned and programmed their robots to do. Any community member is welcome to come learn more from these students and see their recycled racers in action.

 

Similar STEM opporutinitie will be available this summer through Washington County Extension’s Clover University summer day camps. Registration information available April 17. Abigail K and Mikaila M, both 5th graders from Lincoln Elementary, had artwork on display in Des Moines at Grandview University during the month of March. Both girls and their families attended a Youth Art Month celebration on March 25th. Approximately 200 pieces of student of art from around the state were chose for the display. Abgail's artwork is a pencil drawing of dancer's legs and Mikaila's artwork is a watercolor of piano keys. Congratulations for this honor, Abigail and Mikaila!

 
PreACT Testing for Sophomores PDF Print E-mail

Sophomores, now is the time to prep for the ACT. Testing will be Wednesday, April 12 in room 125 from 1:20-4:20. Sign up in the Counseling Office. Cost is $12.
